IPR LICENSE BRINGS NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Published: 26 Aug 2013 updated: 15 Nov 2013 - Silverwood Books
“Non-fiction author Tru Spencer said she "never in a million years would have dreamed of being on a long list, never mind a short one" but this was exactly what happened when her unpublished book, Twin Stars and a Mother From Mars, was shortlisted for this month’s "Agent's Pick", an opportunity linked with registering with IPR License. IPR is a platform on which to list and license literary rights so publishers and agents can find the best new content in a global marketplace.
Launched in 2012, IPR License quickly became partners with award-winning literary agent Andrew Lownie and introduced Agent’s Pick. This has become a monthly promotion where five unpublished manuscripts are featured to over 50,000 publishers in 90 countries, and the winner will also receive a professional written critique. SilverWood works with IPR License, offering an opportunity for discounted registration (for SilverWood-signed authors) and opening up a wide variety of avenues and opportunities. For Tru Spencer this is the Frankfurt Book Fair. Frankfurt, the world’s largest trade book fair, is considered to be the most important for international trading and deals, and is a great example of the contacts IPR License holds - and which SilverWood authors can now tap into.
IPR License produces a catalogue for distribution in the Rights Centre at Frankfurt and pre-Fair will be promoting highlighted titles via email to over 50,000 publishers and agents from over 90 countries. Tru Spencer’s book, describing the highs and lows of IVF and her journey to have the family she dreamed of, will now be featured in this prestigious catalogue as a direct result of winning the monthly prize.
The publicity IPR License offers is an ideal venture for self-publishing and indie authors, or even those looking for new ways to get their books noticed by a wider audience. Whilst the company is still in its early years Managing Director Tom Chalmers is excited about the future. "We have already been approached by the film and music industries" he says, and explains that these collaborations could enable greater cross-sector licensing. Ideally, IPR License will become the industry standard tool for those looking to buy and sell books.”
Note: 10/06/24 IPR License has since ceased operation.
